Hacking Tutorial - Nmap

Nmap is an open source network scanner. It is a widely used information gathering tool by hackers. Nmap is supported by all the major operating systems like Linux,Windows, mac. I'm using Kali Linux for this operations.

By simply typing nmap in terminal you can get the help menu of nmap.

If you are not installed the nmap then install it using the command
$sudo apt-get install nmap

Here I'm running a simple nmap scan on scanme.nmap.org.
nmap -F scanme.nmap.org
scanme.nmap.org
Scanme.nmap.org is a webpage designed for testing nmap scans.
From this example you can understand the basic syntax of the nmap command. Here -F
is used for fastmode. check the information we have got here.
  1. IP address of scanme.nmap.org - 45.33.32.156
  2. Available ports - 22(ssh) , 80(http)
We can also scan this with the IP, It will produce same results
nmap -F 45.33.32.156

We can also scan our local network using Nmap.
nmap -sV -p 1-65535 192.168.1.1/24

Here, -sV is used for getting service informations.

Then -p is used for specify the ports to be scanned. we are given the the port range 1- 65535.

then comes our IP range 192.168.1.1/24 means 192.168.1.0-254 range will be scanned.
All the options available in Nmap:
